Auricular Therapy

Auricular therapy is not an “Unproven” or a “Mystical treatment approach”. In general, It would be wise for anybody in the public and unapproving individuals/doctors to actually read the vast array of published medical research on the subject of Auricular therapy.  In the scheme of history, Body Acupuncture & Auricular Acupuncture has been safely and effectively used long before the first pharmaceutical drug was patented and sold.

What is Auriculotherapy / Auricular Acupuncture?

Auriculotherapy is a non-addictive, widely used Microsystems technique which uses points on the skin of the auricle (external ear) to diagnose and treat pain and medical conditions of the body.

It is also referred to as Auricular Medicine; practitioners all over the world use this therapy to treat pain, addictions and internal disorders for excellent results. This Microsystems therapy has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine in conjunction with another treatment or by itself.  Auriculotherapy is a very effective treatment, very safe and virtually free of side effects.

Modern Auriculotherapy practiced these days by practitioners was developed by award-winning, French neurologist, Dr. Paul Nogier, M.D. (1908-1996).  Dr. Nogier and his research team discovered & proved that the surface of the ear is actually a 3-dimensional, holographic energetic projector of the human anatomy and physiology.

How does it work?

The ear is the first organ to develop to its full size and becomes fully functional at about 18 weeks after conception and is one of the few anatomical structures composed of tissue from each of the 3 primary types (endoderm, ectoderm & the mesoderm) in the developing embryo.  “The outer ear acts like a switchboard to the brain and each point triggers electrical impulses, from the ear, via the brain, to the area of the body being treated.

All signals induced by ear acupuncture travel through a specific part of the brain, the diencephalon, then along neurological pathways to the corresponding body parts. The body strictly obeys these commands because they come straight from the brain. Thus ear acupuncture takes advantage of the body’s own control center, and is a powerful healing modality that is pain free and drug free. Treatment can be invasive or non-invasive.

What is most fascinating is the fact that there are no direct nerve connections between the ear and the rest of the body.  The nerves from the ear however, connect to reflex centers in the brain, which send neurological reflex messages to the spinal cord and then to nerves connecting to the corresponding part of the body.

For a patient, its not  the theory but the result that matters

Imagine your brain as a computer. Inside this computer is a “map” of the entire body.  This map is projected onto your EAR through your nervous system.  Finding the points on the map is like using a computer’s keyboard or mouse to gain entrance into the system.   With Auricular therapy we can energetically treat a number of painful conditions through the “brain’s computer.”

Scientists have proved that pain relief from Auriculotherapy comes from the release of Endorphins into the blood.  These endorphins are body’s natural pain relieving chemicals created by brain.

From Acupuncture perspective, pain is caused by blockage of energy (Qi or Chi) in the acupuncture meridian channels, thus creating an imbalance in the Total-Body (macro-system) acupuncture system.  By stimulating specific ear points in the auricular Micro-system, two-directional connections are activated in the body macro-system which leads to a balancing of energy and an increase flow of Qi.

“How many treatment sessions are necessary?”

Frequency and number of treatment session is extremely case dependent.  Generally, every session is between 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the case.  There is no set number of treatments for any health condition treated through auricular therapy.  Certain cases heal in just one treatment while others require many more sessions, it depends on what is being treated.  Some conditions require multiple treatments spread over time.  Electrical stimulation is also advised in certain conditions.

The wise person has long ears and a short tongue – German proverb

Conditions treated using Auriculotherapy?

There are as many as 200 acupuncture points on the outer ear, each point named generally after the anatomy. These points are stimulated in combination to treat pain, diseases, addictions and internal disorders for excellent results.  Stimulation of ear acupuncture points is done by multiple approaches with seeds, pressure pellets, magnets, laser or electrical, etc.

The World Health Organization (WHO) lists more than 150 conditions for which Auricular therapy is appropriate; ranging from discomforts, pain, acute and chronic internal diseases, Inflammation, Neurological and Orthopedic conditions, Muscle and nerve pain (neck, low back, Sciatica, etc.), Migraines, headaches, Allergies, arthritis (Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid), Fibromyalgia, Gout, Stress, Insomnia, Anxiety, Depression, Weight loss & Sugar Cravings, Addiction (smoking/nicotine, alcoholism, pain killers, illicit drugs), Irritable bowel & constipation, etc.
